Check out Meals on Wheels at FREE Dinner!
Western Communities Action Network (WeCAN) and the Gillespie Center are partnering to introduce Meals on Wheels and other senior programs to members of the communities they serve.
A free dinner, featuring several of the Meals on Wheels (MOW) choices that are offered to the program’s clients, will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 14, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Gillespie Center, 2590 Commerce Boulevard in Mound. The evening will also include an overview of services and programs offered by both WeCAN and the Gillespie Center.
Each year, MOW volunteers deliver around 8,000 meals to people who have signed up for the home deliveries. The program also distributes fresh vegetables from local donation gardens. Personal care products, pet food, and bags of Mobile Market grocery items are also delivered to clients who need additional supportive services. All seniors and disabled adults are encouraged to apply for this valuable service. For some, the convenience of not having to cook a nutritious meal every day allows for an enjoyable day of outings and healthy living.
The Gillespie Center offers a full slate of programs and activities, including fitness classes, music groups, card groups, art groups, movies, lunches, excursions to local theaters and events, and much more. Annual memberships support the center’s day-to-day operations.
You are welcome to join a parent, or anyone interested in learning more about MOW for dinner. Register for the free meal by calling WeCAN at 952-472-0742 by August 6.
