New WeCAN Director is Christopher Anderson


The Board of Directors of WeCAN announced September 16 that they have hired Christopher Anderson as the organization’s Executive Director.

Board President Rick Rohrer says, “We are thrilled that Christopher will be the agency’s new executive director. His wide‐ranging experience, perspective, and energy in our local community will be instrumental in leading WeCAN to the next level of excellence in support of serving low-income families in Mound and the western suburbs of Minneapolis.”

Anderson joins WeCAN after an 11-year position as Director of Adult Faith Formation and Community Outreach at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Excelsior, Minnesota. Before that, he served as Program Director for the Upward Bound Program at North Shore Community College in Lynn, Massachusetts. Anderson has a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the Carlson School of Management and is in the final stages of securing a Master of Education degree in Post-Secondary Education from the University of Minnesota.

Western Communities Action Network, Inc. (WeCAN) has been aiding low-income families in western Hennepin County since 1989. Today, WeCAN serves residents of 12 mostly rural communities. Serving over 1,390 individuals in 2018, WeCAN’s budget for the 2019-2020 fiscal year is $549,288. Based in Mound, they are the only comprehensive human services provider for low-income residents in this region. WeCAN’s mission is to provide support services to empower and equip individuals and families to reach stability and self-sufficiency. Services include Emergency Assistance, Food Support, Employment advocacy, Financial literacy & Family Support programs.
