A Message from the Executive Director

“How Can I Help?”

We have heard this question from so many of you, as we face new challenges and unknowns every day. In times of change and uncertainty like this, I believe the best in us rises to support our community. You have done that, through your emails, phone calls and your much needed donations. All of these things bring encouragement and energy to our team.

We thank you very much! Your commitment to WeCAN and our mission are greatly appreciated and give us strength to do this challenging work.

We continue to thoughtfully adapt to the daily changes we are facing while strongly considering the health and well-being of our staff, clients and volunteers. This week of Westonka Schools’ spring break, we are providing Kids Food Bags to each child, along with a Personal Care Kit for each family. We are also offering Emergency Food bags for individuals and families who need extra food during isolation.

Our Meals on Wheels program has temporarily adjusted to delivering only frozen meals, with weekly deliveries. The Mobile Market continues to deliver food to our 4 apartment complexes, with our team leaving meals directly at each client’s door to avoid contact.

We will continue to monitor this ever-changing situation. Our plan is to adapt our procedures as needed through this situation. We know that in the weeks and months to come there will an unprecedented need for Emergency Assistance and other support.

Though we have recently made some tough decisions due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this virus will not stop our commitment to helping our clients reach stability and self-sufficiency. Those who depend on us most cannot wait for “normalcy” to arrive. Our efforts will continue with temporary adjustments to comply with restrictions and safety standards. But we are not sitting idle and we need your help to continue to provide our important services during this uncertain time. Please consider making a tax-deductible donation to help our neighbors when they need it most. Especially in times of crisis, our work is desperately needed and your support is appreciated now more than ever. And when the urgency has lifted, we will be here to continue the good fight! Our neighbors are counting on us.

Thank you all for helping to care for the most vulnerable in our community now and always.

Chris
